Keyboard: CHANGE

Alias: -CH

Experience Level: Intermediate

Changes the location, size, color, elevation, layer, linetype, linetype scale, lineweight, and three-dimensional thickness of selected entities. When you select a line, you can also change the location of the endpoints of the line. When you select a circle, you can also change the diameter of the circle. When you select a text entity, you can also change the insertion point, style, height, rotation angle, and the text of the entity. This command is especially useful for text entities.

NOTE For best results, we recommend that you change one entity at a time.

Select entities to change: Select the entity that you want to change.

Entities Properties <Change point>: Specify the change point, the default. To change the angle and location of ray and infinite line entities, choose Entities. To change the properties of the entities, choose Properties.

To change a ray or infinite line entity

Choose Entities.

Point change for Rays and Inflines: Angle Point <None>: To keep the ray or infinite line, the default, press Enter. To change the angle, choose Angle. To change the point through which the ray or infinite line passes, choose Point. The changes take effect after the next prompt.

Change: Entities Properties <Change point>: Click to change the angle or pass-through point of the ray or infinite line.

To change the endpoint of a line

  1. Specify a new endpoint for the line.

Specify a new endpoint for the line. If you are drawing orthogonally (ORTHOGONAL is set to on) and you change a non-orthogonal endpoint, the changed endpoint is adjusted so that the line is orthogonal. That is, the line is parallel to the x- or y-axis.

NOTE You cannot use the Change command to change the endpoint of a polyline. Instead, use the Edit Polyline command.

To change the radius of a circle or an arc

  1. Specify the radius.

Specify a new radius for the circle or arc.

To change a text entity

New point for text, or ENTER to change: Specify a new location for the beginning of the text block. As you move the input device, the new location is displayed. Or to leave the insertion point unchanged, press Enter.

New style <default>: To keep the same text style, press Enter or right-click the mouse. Or enter the name of a different text style.

New height <value>: To keep the current text height, press Enter. Or enter a new height for the text.

New rotation angle <0>: To keep the current angle, press Enter. Or enter a new rotation angle of the text.

New text <This is sample text>: To keep the current text, press Enter. Or enter new text.

To change the properties of entities

Choose Properties.

Property to change: Color Elevation LAyer LType ltScale LWeight Thickness PRintstyle: To change the color of the entities, choose Color. To change the elevation of the entities, choose Elevation. To change the layer in which the entity resides, choose LAyer. To change the linetype of the entities, choose LType. To change the linetype scale of the entities, choose ltScale. To change the thickness of the entities, choose Thickness.

If you select more than one entity to change, and those entities have different properties (for example, different layer properties), the current value for the property you choose to change becomes "varies." When you change the properties for multiple entities, all entities in the selection set are changed.

To change the color

Choose Color.

New color <BYLAYER>: Enter a new color. You can enter a color value from the standard Windows color palette (1-255), 0 for BYLAYER, 256 for BYBLOCK, or you can enter the name of one of the seven standard colors (red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta, and white), or choose BYLAYER or BYBLOCK.

To change the elevation

Changing the elevation of a two-dimensional entity changes its position on the z-axis. To change the elevation of a two-dimensional entity, all points on the entity must have the same elevation.

Choose Elevation.

New elevation <0.0000>: Enter a new elevation for the entities.

To change the layer

Choose LAyer.

New layer <0>: Enter the name of the layer with which you want the entities associated.

To change the linetype

Choose LType.

New linetype <CONTINUOUS>: Enter the name of a new linetype.

NOTE If the program does not have the linetype you select, it attempts to load the linetype from icad.lin. If the program cannot locate the linetype in this file, use the Linetype command to add the linetype file.

To change the linetype scale

Choose ltScale.

New linetype scale <1.0000>: To accept 1.0000, the default, press Enter. Or enter a new linetype scale.

To change the lineweight

Choose LWeight.

New lineweight (-3 to 211) <-1>: To accept -1, the default, press Enter. Or enter a new lineweight.

To change the thickness

Changing the thickness of a two-dimensional entity changes the entity's z-direction thickness. You cannot change the thickness of a three-dimensional polyline, dimension entity, or viewport entity.

Choose Thickness.

New thickness <0.0000>: Enter a new thickness.

To change the print style

Choose PRintstyle.

Enter print style name or [?] <BYLAYER>: To accept BYLAYER, the default, press Enter, or enter a new print style name. Enter ? to view a list of available print styles.
